Five questions for Dr. Beat Müller, CTO of Louis Widmer
What is your company proud of?
We are proud to be able to operate as an independent family-owned company, with everything from research and development to production located at our Schlieren site. Our decision-making processes are short, which allows us to remain fast and agile.
What have been the most significant changes in your business in recent years?
Customer needs have changed dramatically, particularly in terms of sustainability. Customer demands in this area have risen sharply, both in terms of products and packaging. Howev-er, Louis Widmer was quick to incorporate the promise of sustainability into its values with "Committed to Care" and is actively involved in this area.
Why are you an SKW member, where can the SKW help you the most and what have been your best experiences with the SKW?
The SKW is an important information network for us, especially when it comes to new regulations in Switzerland and the EU. The SKW also has excellent contacts outside the EU, which is crucial for our export activities.
Another factor is the SKW's active support for Swiss manufacturers. It is important for us to be able to lobby for a favourable regulatory environment so that Switzerland can continue to be a manufacturing location.
The annual general meeting is always a highlight because it is a meeting of the people who are so valuable to the association: the members.
What opportunities and challenges do you see for your company in the near future?
The climate is more challenging than ever before, with a difficult economic situation and an increasingly complex political one. However, we are confident as our innovation pipeline is full to bursting. We look forward to introducing many new and innovative products for our existing customers and new markets.
What are your expectations and concerns for the SKW for the future?
The association is facing and will continue to face significant challenges. We are seeing a dramatic tightening of regulations around the world, particularly in the EU, which has set itself the goal of much stricter regulation of chemicals and, therefore, cosmetics through the so-called 'Green Deal'. A significant amount of association activity will be necessary to implement all of the new standards in an orderly and sensible manner.
