Consumer expectations as a driver of innovation

Society is increasingly concerned with environmental protection and social and ethical standards when purchasing products, and this is not limited to Switzerland. Consumers expect companies to take these concerns seriously and act sustainably throughout the product life cycle, from sourcing raw materials to manufacturing and disposal.

The cosmetics industry is subject to many trends. Some only last for a season, while others last for years. Some consumers demand natural cosmetics, while others prefer high-quality and correspondingly expensive products that use the latest and most exclusive production methods and active ingredients. Of course, there are also excellent everyday products at reasonable prices.

However, there is a general megatrend towards sustainable products that has been steady for several years and is even increasing. Consumers are demanding lighter packaging, more information about the ingredients used, and proof that the manufacturer is fulfilling its social responsibility.

Swiss cosmetics industry on the pulse of its customers

The SKW and its members welcome the call for sustainable products. According to a major European study, up to 70% of consumers agree that a manufacturer's social responsibility, integrity, transparency and environmental awareness are important criteria when choosing products.

Not only products but also packaging are being rethought

The member companies are clearly committed to reducing their environmental footprint. To this end, the SKW has formed the Packaging and Environment Expert Team, which deals with all aspects of sustainability and shares experiences.
